4 Driveway Designs For Your Home

...

If you’re tired of the same generic driveway design for your home, then why not consider something a little different? Our Melbourne-based concrete contractors can help you with some out-of-the-box ideas that are sure to spark some inspiration and ideas for your own home. Taken from the years of experience under our belts – the following driveway designs will provoke a unique sense of style for your front yard and maybe even breathe some fresh life into it – so let’s dive in.

1.     Curved driveways

Instead of just driving straight up and parking your car like a traditional driveway, a curved driveway will allow you to drive forward into your driveway and follow it in one of two directions. This is great for homes that don’t have adjacent or adjoining garages. Alternatively, this also allows people to park their car right in front of their doorway which may appeal to those that drive every day and don’t have the luxury of being able to access their garage without having to step outside.

2.     Expanded driveways

Driveways don’t have to be just wide enough to fit a single car. A wide driveway with an expanded parking area can be great if you have the room for it. Not only does it allow you to do some great design stuff with concrete, but it also doubles as a play area for the kids. The benefits of an expanded driveway pile up even further when you consider it can be used in good weather as a space for you and your friends to hang out and have a BBQ.

This is especially attractive to those who may not have a large backyard and will end up using their front yard as a compromise. If this is the case, then our concrete contractors recommend looking at fencing options for some privacy and can also help you choose from things like concrete pavers or coloured concrete to make the driveway uniquely yours.

3.     Luxurious driveways

Two stand-out options are best suited for luxury homes with lots of land. The first of which is having a long driveway that takes you on a scenic tour of your property’s front yard before reaching your home and the second is having a roundabout driveway – kind of like an upmarket hotel. There’s plenty of scope in terms of adding additional elements to these two types as well.

For example, you can border the long driveway with flowers/plants or arches for the shorter ones (trellis’ are great for these if you’re looking for a casual look). You can also place feature pieces such as water fountains or even statues (or both) in the centre of the roundabouts and then surround it with shrubs or more flowers. The limitations really do stop with your imagination but one of the best parts is that you can also combine these two driveway styles if you don’t want to settle on just one.

4.     Hybrid driveways

Combining concrete with grass is a distinctive design avenue. If you are going to go down this route, then our Melbourne-based concrete contractors recommend not putting too much grass on the outer parts of the driveway where your wheels are likely to go over as this could result in a bumpy journey. Stick to putting larger grass patches in the middle of the driveway. Whilst both real and artificial grass will work – artificial grass is better suited for this application.

There are a few ways you can combine grass with concrete, but the easiest way is to pick a pattern. This could be long thin strips of grass riddled throughout the driveway or even little diamond-shaped patches that match the concrete pavers you’ve chosen. Concrete pavers are great for this type of driveway as they’re available in a variety of shapes, textures, sizes and colours. It’s also a lot cleaner to leave pavers out of the pattern for where the grass will be – further adding to its versatility.
